Part III. The Universal Blessings of Justification by Faith. Rom. 5:1-8:39.
1. For each individual. Rom. 5:1-11.
a. Peace, v. 1
b. Access into this grace, v. 2a.
C. Rejoice in hope, v. 2b
d. Glory in tribulations, v. 3a.
e. Patience, v. 3b
f. Experience, v. 4a.
g. Hope, v. 4b.
h. Not Ashamed, v. 5a.
i. Love of God, v. 5b
j. The Holy Ghost, v. 5c
k. Reconciliation or justification is by Christ's death through God's
love, 6-8
l. Much more we shall be saved from wrath, by His life, 9-10.
m. Joy in God, v. 11.
2. Deliverance from sin. Rom. 5:12-3:39.
a. Through Christ for all mankind. v. 12-21.
By His Federal Headship. He is the Head of a New Race, those born of
the Spirit of God.
Adam, Head of the Old Creation. - Christ, Head of the New Creation.
Disobedient - Obedient
Sin entered - The Grace of God manifest.
Condemnation - Justification
Death - Life
Law entered - sin abounded. - Grace much more abounded.
Sin reigned unto death. - Grace reigned unto eternal life.
Through Adam - sin and death. - Through Christ - righteousness and life.
b. The Justified are not to continue in sin. Rom. 6:1-23. Because:
1. They are dead to sin with Christ. Death v. 2,3,4a,5a,6,7,
a. Baptised into Jesus Christ. v. 8a,10a,11a.
Into His death.
b. The old man is crucified with Him.
That the body of sin might be destroyed.
c. Reckon ourselves dead unto sin.
Because Christ died unto sin once.
2. They are raised to newness of life with Christ.
Resurrection. v. 4b,
a. Raised in tie likeness of Christ's resurrection. 5b,
8b, 9, 10b, 11b,
b. Newness of life.
c. Reckon ourselves alive unto God through Him.
Because Christ lives unto God forever!
3. They are not to yield to sin but to yield to God.
Yielding. v. 13,16.
a. Sin shall not be king.
b. We are not under law but under grace.
c. If we yield to sin we become the servants of sin.
d. If we yield to righteousness we become the servants of
righteousness
4. Their life will bear fruit. Fruit. v. 21-23.
a. The end of sin is death!
The wages of sin.
b. The end of holiness is everlasting life!
The gift of God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Note the three questions in Chapter 6.
1. Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? v. 1
Answer: We are dead to sin!
2. Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? v. 15.
Answer: If we yield to sin we are the servants of sin.
3. What fruit have we then in those things whereof we are now
ashamed? v. 21.
Answer: It was bitter fruit--uncleanness, iniquity, death.
Now we have fruit unto holiness.
